Cyber Attack on India Initiated by China
Hackers plan to tempt vulnerable individuals and companies into falling for the phishing attacks. Hackers of China attempted more than 40,000 cyber attacks on India's banking sector and Information Technology infrastructure in the last few days.
On India-China faceoff in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that China has been expanding its forces at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) since early May.
This behavior of Chinese forces has not been tolerated by India. This China attack is totally against of all mutually agreed norms.
It is obvious that India undertakes counter-attack. This India-China border issue affects Indian Web. The explosion in cyber attacks begins amid tensions between India and China. Since border tensions burst, Indian agencies have been struggling with direct and indirect attacks.
Indian army is facing off against China actively on the border But in the cyber world, India's internet defending agencies are facing a cyber-war conducted by China by invisible hackers.
Yashasvi Yadav, Special Inspector General of Police of the Maharashtra Police's cyber sector said that the outbreak in online attacks in India from across the border (China) was noticed. and it has happened after tensions rose between the two countries, India-China in eastern Ladakh.
Multiforme cyber attacks targeting Indian websites have been launched in recent days, according to the top experts of the government. These cyber-attacks have been detected on entities with links to China, Pakistan, and North Korea.
Officials of Cyber Sector examined data concerning these attempts and found that most of them were originated in Chengdu, city of China.
In India, Every sector and the cyber platform has been suffering from attacks arising from China, North Korea, and Pakistan in current days. Hacking attempts from these three countries are increased using proxies and bots. Attacks are a form of different sources are carrying out various tasks.
These attacks intended to create issues such as Phishing, Denial of service(DoS), Hijacking of Internet Protocol, IP Spoofing, etc.
This is big tension for the Indian Government and also for normal people. We have to be so careful for our all online activities. There are lots of malicious activities that occur online on the web or on the Internet.
The senior government leader said,
"Hacking attempts arising from China are looking for information about the raw material acquisition and products including that for anti-Covid19 fight and strategies. Here Chinese business interest comes in. If they know what India needs, Chinese companies can arrange their supplies."
On Prime Minister Narendra Modi's request to "Go Vocal for Local" and self-reliant movement or the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, China is out to steal data on Indian policies and strategies.
Email platforms are also affected by cyber attack
The government warned people of a massive phishing attack that could simulate official information on the corona virus pandemic to steal personal data and financial information from people. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team(CERT-In) said that the phishing attack is expected to rise and could use the email ncov2019@gov.in or ncovid2019.gov.in

The CERT-In tweeted
“It has been reported that malicious actors are planning a large scale phishing attack campaign against Indian individuals and businesses (small, medium and large enterprises), The phishing campaign is expected to use malicious emails like ncov2019@gov.in or ncovid2019.gov.in under the appearance of local authorities in charge of dispensing government-funded Covid-19 support initiatives. This type of fraud emails are created to push receivers towards fake websites where they are tricked into downloading malicious files or entering personal and financial information.”
The CERT-In alert report added that there are phishing email subject lines like free Covid-19 testing and use email address ncov2019@gov.in or ncovid2019.gov.in for all citizens of Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.
Indian Internet or Web users need to pay attention to the threat of such attacks, conduct cybersecurity audits, create robust ‘firewalls’ and keep your Network or Connections safe. Protect your network from such attacks.
The government also issued precautionary actions and urge people to beware of any online cyber-attacks. Millions of Indian people targeted by fake emails, text messages, or social media posts that give a guarantee for Free Covid-19 Testing across India.
Ways to Protect Yourself From Cyber Attacks
Following are list of helpful defensive steps that everyone should follow to Prevent Cyber Attacks.
- Do not open the email with subject line Free COVID-19 Testing. Email address or Email Id may like ncovid2019.gov.in or ncov2019@gov.in
- Do not open or click on any attachment in the unsolicited email, SMS, or messages over social media. Even if the sender seems to be known, open attachments with valid caution.
- Scan suspicious e-mail attachments and remove doubtful e-mail attachments.
- Ensure the scanned attachment has a valid file type or having a valid file extension.
- Beware of websites, email addresses, unfamiliar email senders, and spelling errors in emails.
- Do not submit personal or financial information on unfamiliar or unknown websites or links.
- Use safe browsing tools, good anti-virus software, strong firewall, and filtering services.
- Beware of emails, links presenting exclusive offers like Free Covid-19 testing, winning prizes, advertisements, cashback offers, rewards, special deals, discounts, etc.
- Encrypt and protect your sensitive documents to avoid possible leakage.
- Update spam filters with the newest spam mail contents. Any strange activity or attack reported immediately at @cert-in.org.in
