TikTok - The short video app crossed 1 billion downloads last year in February. TikTok app grows a lot and it achieves its significant milestones because of Lockdown. TikTok became the most downloaded social media application in India as lockdown started. It's obvious that TikTok became one of the most viral entertaining apps worldwide. Now a days you also see some Internet war of Youtube vs TikTok, but today I am not talk about Youtube vs TikTok. I just give you some sensible information that everyone should know about it before using TikTok. Some people use it just for fun and entertainment but they don’t know that TikTok is safe for them or not? Before jumping to any conclusion Let’s see some facts about the most viral app TikTok.
If you ever installed any application then you noticed that application asks you for several permissions of your device like
- Location
- Contacts
- Photos
- Microphone etc.
when you try to record something in TikTok, it also asks permission for accessing your SD card, camera, audio, etc. I think these are the common permissions that mostly all apps are asking for better user interaction but the problem raise when TikTok does not ask you permission for your Location but still TikTok access your Location. Yes don’t shock and check it yourself and then you will decide that TikTok access your Location or not?
Now follow below steps to clear your doubt regarding TikTok
- Settings and Permissions
Take your phone and go to settings, find app permissions of TikTok, you see a list of permission that TikTok asked.You did not find a Location option in that list.
- Language Settings
Now in TikTok settings, if you select any language other than your native language though you see videos in your native language along with your selected language.
- Turn off Location
For more experiments just turn off your Location. As we all know without location Google maps does not work properly, even Arogya Setu also doesn’t work properly without Location. Although you open your TikTok app and by scrolling your stuff you still see videos of your native language So How does TikTok know your Location?
- VPN (Virtual Private Network)
You may know the term VPN (Virtual Private Network). VPN use to change your location. Once you use VPN, the Internet serves you stuff according to your location. If you change your location to Italy then Italian servers provide you related information and you also get Italian advertisements. But if you check your TikTok app, you can see the same videos.
How it possible without grant permission of Location? One way to access someone's location is by accessing someone’s SIM card. Likewise TikTok use our SIM card for Location.If you do not believe then visit it's official site and go through the privacy policy section. Or just refer below screenshot.
